Search in PDM-systems becomes easier

Companies “Lotsia Soft” and “SoftInform” have presented a joined product, which includes Lotsia PDM Plus system and SearchInform Server full text search module. 

According to both companies, it resulted in the first domestic PDM-system with an integrated module of full text search and similar content document search. The SearchInform Server product, developed by the SoftInform company allows to quickly search information from all the elements of Lotsia PDM Plus packet: in the system of packet documentation management, document flow program and electronic archive. Aside from conducting the search, the joined use of two products will also help to solve other problems like eliminating the unneeded document duplication, as well as analyzing and defining of already existing in the system documents.

According to Aleksei Rodionov, Lotsia Soft general director, attribute search mechanisms, used in the majority of PDM-systems, are quite suitable for finding technical documentation (graphical sketches, models), yet the content search will also be useful for the text documents. The full text search solutions based on integrated DBMS systems offered on the market don’t always provide the needed result, since they work only with documents already existing in the database and don’t cover other sources that usually contain unstructured information. Lev Matveyev, SoftInform general director, added that creation of a company’s joint information field requires consolidation of information from various sources. SearchInform Server module and other SoftInform products are meant to solve precisely that problem.
