Rule options in Spam Blocker

To start tuning a certain rule's settings in Spam Blocker you should select it in the "Mail accounts" task bar tree. You can do it both from the "Created rules" folder and the "Accounts rules" folder of every individual account. On selecting a rule, the following settings will be dispalyed in the information window:

Below a detailed description of every field is given.

Rule name - in this field you should enter the name of this rule.

Comments - this field is correspondingly meant for viewing comments. Comments can be very useful to describe the destination of this rule. This can be especially helpful when the number of rules is big and you need to remember what a certain anti spam rule is responsible for.

Rules parameters - this option contains all the criteria by which this anti spam rule works, which means that filling in this field is of prior importance .

So to add a new spam filtering rule, press "Add block parameter" button. The following window will emerge:

With the help of this window new anti spam rule parameters can be set. As Spam Blocker uploads only the letter headings to establish whether they belong to spam, the parts of a letter, with which certain words should be compared, are as follows.

· From name
· From address
· To name
· To address
· Subject size

In such a way you should define which part of a letter might contain advertising related words, and select the necessary one in the "Letter object" field.

The next field - "Operation". Here you should define the way, in which you carry out search for "bad words" in the selected part of the letter. Let's describe the meaning of each operation:

· Equal - means that if the word or phrase entered at the next step, will be found in the previously defined part of the letter (and will fully correspond with it), then this letter will be regarded by Spam Blocker as spam and will correspondingly be removed from server.

· Not equal - exact opposite of the previous one, i.e. if the corresponding word is not found, then it will be regarded by SpamBlocker as spam.

· Equal by mask - if the mask entered will be found in the selected letter part, it will be regarded as spam by spam filter.

A mask is a fuzzy word, that can be expanded by some symbols in place of "*" and "?". The first mark means that it can be replaced by any number of symbols. The second mark means that it can only be replaced by one symbol. For example, the c*gra?ula* mask will fit the words congratulation, congratulate, coasdfgrafulaps etc.

· Not equal by mask - opposite of "Equal by mask", i.e. if if the mask is not found in the selected letter part, it should be regarded by anti spam software as spam.
· In the list - if some words and word masks from list, which will be selected further, are present in the selected letter part, it is regarded by spam filter as spam.

Further information on lists read in the "Creating new list" paragraph.

· Not in list - opposite of the previous point, i.e. if some words or word masks from the list selected further, are not found in the selected letter part, it will be regarded by Spam Blocker as spam.

Last field "Value". It is completed in accordance with the previously checked options. So, for instance, if the "Equal" or "Not equal" option is checked, then the "bad word" for further search in letters should be entered. If the "Equal by mask" or "Not equal by mask" option is checked, then in the value field one of the lists present in the anti spam application system will be available.
